The lasting legacy of Industry is something which lives on in more than just architecture and the occasional cast iron lamp post. It is a state of mind ingrained into communities which still exist, and although there may not be the institutions which once were central to them there is still the pride and identity that held them together. It is essential that this identity is captured and held onto whilst it still remembered.

These towns which built the Industrial Revolution are largely unheard of outside of their immediate circles and consequently their insular nature has preserved a wealth of often unspoilt character. Dilapidation and Necessary re-development are two factors that are rapidly changing this fact. I.H.S. as an organisation has been set up to create physical markers of this disappearing identity, informed and inspired by these sometimes forgotten Industrial communities.

Each piece is formed by an in depth research into the history of the town in which it will live. This research takes on a number of forms, however by far the most dominant is community involvement and interaction. Gaining input and inspiration from the whole range of generations in the area, this can be through workshops, meetings or even community assemblies.

As can be seen by our involvement in towns like Cradley Heath, Netherton, Belfast, Walsall Wood , Brighton, Bentley and more, the effect of a proud public monument is not to be underrestimated. It still unites people under a local and binding icon, the artwork defining their community and giving it a face. Needless to say, our artworks, due to this effect and community engagement have never to date been vandalised.

We are passionate about the real act of involvement to create an end piece which has evolved through ideas and been homed into a bold sculptural statement by the artist. We work primarily out of the Black Country due to the density of Industrial fabricators and suppliers in the area and also it's central position geographically.

Our fabrication and design studio is in the Solid Swivel Company's five acre factory, they are our primary supporter and been manufacturing heavy engineering products since 1910. Their support gives I.H.S. access to a reliable labour force and tools at the cutting edge of modern and traditional engineering techniques. I.H.S is supported by a number of other local Industries specialising in the production of Steel, Stone, Concrete, Glass and Bronze products as well as more specialised areas. This support gives us the unique opportunity to work at cost in both material and fabrication of large scale public artworks.

I.H.S' Non-Profit status as a company allows us to be eligible for a number of grants and bursaries unavailable to other artists and fabricators, and as a local organisation our appointment is an excellent reflection on the final work. I cannot stress enough how positive an effective a piece of public realm artwork can be for the PR. of a developer.

We are experienced in the responsible management of section 106 funding and have an excellent record of turning this often difficult aspect of a development into a resounding success.

The organisation stands for the noble idea of Civic pride and the production of lasting beautiful and sturdy monuments that are built for the people, with the people and about the people.
